Professional ethics are the application of the basic principles governing the quality of the conduct and the moral duties of each outfitter member of the Federation towards society in general and specifically towards his/her clients or employees, his/her profession and his/her colleagues.

Each outfitter that becomes a member of the QOF must respect the federation's Code of Ethics and basic principles.

A. OBLIGATIONS TO SOCIETY

1. Members must collaborate with public authorities to ensure compliance with the laws and regulations that concern the activities offered by their enterprise.

2. Members must run their establishment and services in a way that is serious-minded and in accordance with professional standards and, while performing their duties, members must fully pledge their personal responsibility.

3. Members must collaborate with the concerned authorities (Ministry of Natural resources and Wildlife and its representatives, Quebec Outfitters Federation, etc.) for the development and promotion of a wildlife conservation policy.

4. Members must also collaborate with managers of wilderness reserves and other stakeholders to ensure the sustainable development of wildlife and forest resources.

B. OBLIGATIONS TO CLIENTS

5. Members will accurately describe the services offered and their prices in their advertisement.
6. At the time of the reservation, the services offered and their prices will always be described in full to clients, as well as the method of payment and the cancellation policy.

7. The services provided and the prices billed to the clients must be consistent with the ones agreed upon at the time of the reservation. If circumstances beyond the control of the member require a change, members will offer services that are at least of similar quality or, if not possible, will offer a monetary compensation to the client.

8. Members will provide their clients with accommodations and facilities that are safe and in good condition.

9. Members will endeavour to have employees that are trained, courteous and sufficient in number.

10. Members will give their clients the necessary information to ensure them a safe and pleasant stay; they will have all the equipment needed to practice the activities they offer and hold all the necessary licences.

11. Members may not guarantee that fish or game will be harvested nor allude to any such guarantee.

12. Neither the members nor their guides will kill game nor catch fish for the clients.

13. Members will take the necessary measures to keep the catches in good condition and will hand them over to the clients at the time of their departure.

14. Members will make sure that their clients and staff know of the regulation in force on the practice of hunting, fishing and other activities and will make sure that this regulation is respected.

C. OBLIGATIONS TO THE FEDERATION AND ITS REPRESENTATIVES

15. Members must uphold the good reputation of the Federation and ensure its prestige by their own professional behaviour as well as that of their employees.

16. They will protect the Federation collectively and individually against all false representations.

17. They will assist the development of the Federation through the exchange of their knowledge and experience with other members, and through their participation in the activities of the Federation.

18. Members must refuse their support to any member that does not comply with the demands of the professional ethics.

19. Members will respect and comply with all decisions of the ethics committee.

D.OBLIGATIONS TO THEIR COLLEAGUES

20. Members will be loyal to their colleagues and will not adversely affect, directly or indirectly, the existing relations between a colleague and their clients or employees.

21. Members must not maliciously attack, either directly or indirectly, the professional reputation of another member. However, if a member believes that a colleague is guilty of acts that are unethical, he/she must submit the case in writing to the ethics committee.

E. ETHICS COMMITTEE

22. The ethics committee ensures the application and respect of this Code by the members of the Federation; it recommends means of action to raise the awareness of outfitters about the importance of offering quality services in outfitting establishments.

23. It receives any written and signed complaint about any member of the Federation, provided that the complaint is related to the Code of Ethics. The complaint must indicate the nature of the offence, as well as the time and place of the offence, and include supporting evidence.

24. The committee will send any complaint to the concerned member and will allow him/her at least 30 days to obtain his/her version of the facts.

25. After studying the versions of both the complainant and the outfitter, or the sole version of the complainant if the outfitter does not provide an answer, the committee will make recommendations and inform all the concerned parties.

26. The committee will report its activities and refer to the Council, for a final decision, any motion of suspension or exclusion of a member when deemed necessary.
